McAfee Security for Mac 1.0 is anti-malware software that can be installed on both Intel and PowerPC (universal) Macintosh computers running Mac OS X 10.4.6 or higher including Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.x).
Texas State has a license that allows current faculty, staff and students to McAfee Security for Mac 1.0 anti-malware software for Macintosh users. In order to download this software, you will need to have an active Texas State NetID.
This software is for use by current TxState users only! It is illegal to distribute this software to Non-TxState users!
NOTE: When you download a file from this page, you will be prompted for your Texas State NetID and password.
If using an older Mac with less then 1GB of memory, install the older VirusScan 8.6.1 software.
You now can delete any intermediate files on the desktop or Downloads folder that end in ".gz" or ".zip". Eject the McAfee Security for Mac-Anti-malware-1.0-RTW-644 virtual disk that is on the desktop and you can now choose to delete the MSM10TXST.zip and McAfee Security for Mac-Anti-malware-1.0.dmg files since they are only needed for installation.
- Run the McAfee Security application.
- From the McAfee Security menu, select Preferences...
- The Preferences window will appear.
- Click the Anti-malware toolbar button.
- Click the padlock in the lower left to make changes.
- If your computer becomes too sluggish:
- Select On-access Scan tab.
- Set the Scan files while: pop-down button to Write.
- Refer to the McAfee Security for Mac 1.0 User Guide for guidance on adjusting the On Access Scanner.
Patches are released by McAfee periodically to address minor issues in certain computing environments. Patch files should be applied only on the advice of McAfee Technical Support, and only when you are actually experiencing the issue being addressed by the Patch. Patch files should not be proactively applied in order to prevent potential product issues.
To tell if a patch has been applied, select the McAfee Security menu and the About McAfee Security option.
