Requirements and Resources
- A Texas State NetID and Password.
- Windows XP or Windows 2000
- A wireless card (802.11 standard compliant)
- All critical updates and patches applied to your operating system.
- Within range of a Texas State access point.
- Verify that Windows Hotfix KB893357 is installed- click on Control Panel>>Add/Remove Software. Make sure to put a check in the box next to ‘Show Updates’ on the ‘Add/Remove’ window. If the hotfix is not installed, click here to get it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893357
- Verify that the latest drivers are installed for the wireless Network Interface Card, and that the card and the drivers support WPA or WPA2. WPA2 is preferred.

Create Profile in Windows XP/2000 named 'TexasStateWPA'
- From the Start menu, select Control Panel.
- Open Network Connections (In category view, click Network and Internet Connections first)
- Right click on your Wireless icon in Network Connections, and select Properties.
Your Wireless Network Connections dialog box should pop up.
Select the Wireless Networks tab.
Make sure that Use Windows to configure my Wireless network is checked.
Click Add… in the Preferred Networks section.

- The Add… button will open the Wireless network properties dialog box.
On the Association tab, enter TexasStateWPA (exactly as shown) for the Network Name.
Change Network Authentication to WPA2 or WPA. The example shows WPA2.
Select AES or TKIP for Data encryption. The example shows AES.

- Click on the Authentication tab and change the EAP type to Protected EAP (PEAP) and click on the Properties button.

- The Properties button opens the Protected EAP Properties dialog box. Make the following changes:
Remove the check next to Validate server certificate setting.
Select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) as the authentication method.
Check Enable Fast Reconnect.
Click the Configure… button

- The Configure… button opens the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties dialog box.
Remove the check for the Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) setting and click the OK button.

- Now click the OK button on the Protected EAP Properties dialog box and click OK on the Wireless Network properties dialog box to return to the Wireless Network Connection Properties Dialog.
Connect to TexasStateWPA
- On the Wireless Network Connection Properties Dialog window, click the View Wireless Network button

- From the wireless connections window, select TexasStateWPA in the list and click the Connect button.
- You’ll need to provide your logon information before you can connect to the TexasStateWPA wireless network. To do this, click on the Wireless Network notification caption, in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.

- When you click on the notification caption, the Enter Credentials dialog box pops up.
Enter your Texas State NetID and password in the appropriate fields.
For Logon domain, enter TXSTATE, and click the OK button.
