Encrypted WPA Wireless - Windows Vista

Requirements

  • A Texas State NetID and Password.
  • Windows Vista
  • A wireless card (802.11 standard compliant)
  • All critical updates and patches applied to your operating system.
  • Within range of a Texas State access point.

Instructions for Windows Vista:

  1. Turn on your laptop and login into Windows as usual.
  2. From the Start menu, select Network.
  3. Select the Network and Sharing Center tab.

  4. Click the link at the left of the window to Set up a connection or network.

  5. From the option list, select Manually connect to a Wireless Network.

  6. You will now be prompted to enter the information for your wireless network.
    The Network name is: TexasStateWPA <-type it in exactly as you see it. No spaces.
    The Security type is WPA2-Enterprise. Then click Next

  8. The network will be added. Select the option to Change connection settings.

  9. Open the Security Tab and click the Settings button.

  11. Remove the check next to Validate Server Certificate and then click Configure….

  13.  Remove the check next to “Automatically Use Windows logon name…” Click OK.
  14. Click OK to close the Protected EAP Properties window.
  15. Click OK to close the TexasStateWPA properties window.
  16. You will now see an additional information bubble pop-up in the lower right of your screen.
    Click on the bubble to Authenticate.
  17. Type in your Texas State NetID for the  User name  (ex: ab1234) and your Texas State password.
    The Domain is TXSTATE. Click OK.
