Encrypted WPA Wireless - Mac OS X (10.3.9 - 10.4.x)

Requirements:

  • A Texas State NetID and Password.
  • Macintosh OS X 10.3.9 to 10.4.x
  • Airport software
  • Airport card (802.11 standard compliant)
  • All critical updates and patches applied to your operating system.
  • Within range of a Texas State access point.

Important: If you are using Leopard, see the Leopard encrypted WPA wireless instructions.

Instructions for Mac OS X:

  1. Turn on your laptop and login into Mac OS X as usual.
  2. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences... and then select the Network icon.
  3. Select Airport next to Show: and make sure Show Airport state in menu bar is checked.
  4. Change the By default, join: pop down button from Automatic to Preferred networks.

  5. Click the + button to add a new network.

  6. For Network Name, select TexasStateWPA.
    From the Wireless Security pop-down button switch the setting from None to WPA2 Enterprise.

  8. Type in your Texas State NetID and password.

  9. The TexasStateWPA network will appear in the list of preferred networks.
    It is recommended that you click on the TexasStateWPA row and drag it to the top of the list
    and click the Apply Now button.

  10. Close the Network window.
  11. Select TexasStateWPA from the Airport menu to connect using it.
