Encrypted WPA Wireless - Mac OS X (10.5.x)

Requirements:

  • A Texas State NetID and Password.
  • Macintosh OS X 10.5.1 or higher. (Leopard only)
  • Airport software
  • Airport card (802.11 standard compliant)
  • All critical updates and patches applied to your operating system.
  • Within range of a Texas State access point.
  • Latest system updates - 10.5.x, select Apple menu, Software Update...

Instructions for Mac OS X:

  1. Turn on your laptop and login into Mac OS X as usual.
  2. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences... and then select the Network icon.
  3. Select Airport from the list on the left and make sure Show Airport state in menu bar is checked.
  4. Change the Network Name pop down button to Join Other Network...

  5. For the network name, type in TexasStateWPA (type in exactly as shown).
    Change the Security pop-down button from None to WPA2 Enterprise.

  6. Type in your Texas State NetID and password.
    Check the Remember this network option.
    Click the Join button.

  7. You will be prompted to verify the certificate.

    Click the Show Certificate button.
    Check the option to Always trust "npssrv.tr.txstate.edu" (or "npssrv2.tr.txstate.edu")
    Click the Continue button.

  8. Back on the Network window, click the Apply button in the lower right.
    In about 30 seconds, the status of the connection should read Authenticated and the Network Name should be TexasStateWPA.

  9. Close the Network window.
