Setting Up Outlook 2007 for Exchange access from off campus

This article will walk you through setting up Microsoft Outlook 2007 for an “Outlook Anywhere” connection to the Exchange 2007 e-mail servers at Texas State University.  A valid and active NetID and password is required to complete this setup.

Outlook Anywhere is a technology that allows end users to access their Exchange e-mail accounts from outside of the Texas State University network using Outlook 2007.

IMPORTANT: You must be setting up Outlook 2007 on a computer that is connected using an off campus connection to the Internet. During the setup process, Outlook 2007 will detect that you are not currently on the Texas State network and configure itself to use the correct settings for external use.

If you have a laptop computer that you have already setup Outlook 2007 when connected to the Texas State network, you can manually configure Outlook 2007 to use Outlook Anywhere .

Please note that this setup article is valid for Microsoft Office 2007 only and will not work for other versions of Microsoft Outlook.

  1. Open the Control Panel by clicking Start à Control Panel (or Start à Settings à Control Panel).
  2. Open the “Mail” settings as shown below.

  3. Click  the “Show Profiles” button.

  4. Click on the “Add...” button.

  5. Type “Exchange – Outlook Anywhere” then click OK.

  6.  Fill in the information  such as your name, NetID and password where applicable.  When you have filled in the necessary info, click “Next.”

  7. Next, you may have to wait for a few minutes while Outlook 2007 tries to resolve the server name for your e-mail account, please be patient.

  8. When prompted, enter your NetID and password in the format: txstate\NetID.  When you have entered your information, click OK.

Please note that this next step may take a few minutes, please be patient.

  9. When the connection is completed, you should see three green check marks by each of the e-mail server settings and a message that says "Your e-mail account is successfully configured to use Microsoft Exchange" . Please contact the IT Assistance Center at 245-ITAC (4822) for setup assistance if Outlook displays a message that the configuration failed.

Once the account is successfully configured, click the “Finish” button.

  10. You should now see the “Exchange – Outlook Anywhere” profile listed in the mail settings.

Select the “Always use this profile” radio button and from the pop-down button below it select the newly created profile.

    Click Apply, then click OK.

Using Outlook
