Bobcatmail provides a web interface know as Outlook Web Access or (OWA). This allows you to connect to your e-mail through a web browser like Internet Explorer and view the contents of your e-mail folders, contacts, calendar, etc. You can access Bobcatmail by using the URL: https://synergy.txstate.edu/exchange.
The premium client provides all Outlook Web Access features. The basic client provides fewer features than the premium client but offers faster performance. Use the basic client if you're on a slow connection. If you use Internet Explorer as a web-browser you will be presented with the choice to use either Premium or Basic on the Bobcatmail login page, however if you use another web-browser you will not see this option.
Public and Private are security setting options that allow you to adjust the time that OWA can be inactive before your logon session ends. The public option is the default and should be used when you are in a public lab or kiosk location. By default, BobcatMail will end your session and you may be forced to re-login after 15 minutes of inactivity. It is important when composing long e-mail messages to save a copy as a draft every 5-10 minutes so that you do not lose your work. The private option extends the inactivity period to 24 hours before your logon session ends. The private option should only be used if you are using BobcatMail on your home or office computer. If you are using BobcatMail in a public lab and forget to log off, you run the risk of someone else accessing your e-mail account if you don't use the default option of Public or shared computer.
In BobcatMail click on the Log Off button or link in the upper right. It is important to log off after every session and not just close your browser window. If you do not log out, your BobcatMail session is still open and the next person that uses the computer could access your account. Always logoff and then close the browser window.
To see new e-mail that has arrived in your mailbox, click the "Check Messages" button. This button icon appears as two envelopes on the toolbar. Your web browser does not continually check for new e-mail so you need to use the "Check Messages" button to manually refresh the view.
If you are using Premium mode (Internet Explorer) you will see the folders listed in a hierarchy on the left hand side of your web browser. If you are using Basic mode (any browser other that Internet Explorer) you will see only your default folders. To see other folders, you will use the "Click to view all folders" button on the left hand side of your web browser. You will be presented with a drop-down list to select one of your other folders. Select the desired folder by highlighting it and clicking the green right-arrow button. To create a new folder, click "Manage Folders...".
The general settings as well as more specific client instructions can be found at the E-mail Setup page on the TR website.
To forward your Texas State mail to another email address, or to remove or change an existing forward, login to the Online Toolkit and use the Set Forward application.
To create, disable, or enable a personal e-mail name, login to the Online Toolkit and use the Set Email Alias option.
For Students - 175 megabytes. A warning will be sent at 130 megabytes. Students will not be able to send new messages at 150 megabytes. At 175 megabytes, no messages can be sent or received.
Students have a mailbox size of - 175 megabytes. The storage limit of your mailbox is also known as your quota. When you have filled this quota, you will be unable to receive messages or create appointments. As you approach your quota, you will receive warning messages from the server reminding you to clean out your mailbox. When you delete mail from your Inbox or Sent Items, they are placed in the Deleted Items folder, which acts as a temporary storage like the Recycle Bin. When you send any mail out, a copy of it is saved in the Sent Items. All items in the Inbox, Deleted Items and Sent Items or folders you create add to your mailbox size usage.
You can go to the Deleted Items to empty it to free up space.. In OWA Premium, right-click on the "Deleted Items" folder and select "Empty Deleted Items". In OWA Basic, select the "Deleted Items" folder and click the Recycle bin toolbar icon.
