You will need to configure the PPP panel:
You may want to configure some of the PPP options:
These instructions assume that you will be connecting to the Internet using a modem. When the Automatic setting of the Network Panel is used, a connection to the Internet will be attempted using any available network port (not just the internal modem). If you are using a modem, it is therefore recommended that you specify the Internal modem as the first network port.
To change the order of the network ports, change the Show: pop-up button to Active Network Ports. Next select and drag the line with Internal Modem to the top of the list. You may also choose to deactivate a network port by removing the check next to it.
At this point, you can quit the System Preferences and run an application such as Internet Explorer to connect to the Internet. If you chose not to save your password, you will be prompted for it before the modem dials to make the connection. You can also connect to the Internet by selecting the telephone handset menu icon located on the upper right side of the menu bar and selecting Connect.
Note: If you have the Software Update preferences set to Automatically check for new updates, your computer will attempt to connect to the Internet to check for new updates periodically. You may want to turn off Automatic Software Updates to prevent your computer from connecting to the Internet on its own. You can always open Software Update and manually check for new software updates.

If your modem type does not appear in the list, you will need to install the modem driver software on the CD that came with the modem. You can also download the latest modem driver for your modem by accessing the modem manufacturer's web page from another computer connected on the Internet. As a last resort, you may have to try using one of the Hayes Compatible choices. If using a laptop, you will want to select built-in modem.
